Hotels that Impact Mental Health

The effects of the pandemic on the different population segments’ mental health have been studied almost since the pandemic began, with results that are significantly worrying, therefore, not very encouraging. However, there is still little data on the emotional harm that affects those responsible for keeping a business operating through the quicksands.

Although many leaders consider mental fatigue to be a “weakness” that only happens to others, the truth is that there is no guaranteed immunity against this state. Recognizing the signs of burnout and tackling them in a timely manner is crucial not only for the leaders themselves, but also for the entire company.

September is just around the corner and, as usually, everything seems to return to its place…But this September, like the “other” September, brings much more anxiety and other concerns created by the “insecurity” affecting all the fields of our life, bringing an immense range of “fears” to the “surface”.

With this certainty, the hospitality industry has a fundamental role towards the emotional “rebound”, changing its passive way of “being” and becoming part of several communities through the enhancement of many other services than just accommodation, meals and the traditional concept of “Spa”.

City hotels can have a “social” contribution in this new area of physical, emotional and mental well-being that few can envision, as they do not know this topic and, as such, simply decide to abandon it.

On this month 18th, the North American consultant Lodging Econometrics (LE) pointed out a projection of 120 new units under construction in Portugal with a total of 14 510 rooms, placing Portugal in fourth place in the European ranking.

What percentage of units are designed with integrative concepts regarding the Wellness segment?

In the Sustainability era, what is the purpose of so much growth in new construction (the vast majority being just a constant “copying” of the existing ones) when we have so many units needing requalification?

Sustainability in its whole and impact on the health of population (whether travellers or local community) are the commitments of ABC Sustainable Luxury Hospitality that translate into guaranteed return on investment as well as an international positioning that few in Portugal can boast.
